Movie Review: The Amazing Spider-Man
For a reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man wasn't that bad of a movie. When I first heard about this movie, I thought it was going to be all action and no story, but I later found out I was completely wrong. The movie had a great story and also some amazing action. Unlike the previous films, in this movie they really elaborated on Peter Parker's parents, his background, and his spider-like abilities. I liked the way they showed how Peter ended up with his aunt and uncle, how his parent's disappearance affected him, and most importantly, how his abilities developed after the famous spider bite that created the Spider-Man. Including Peter's father's background was another thing I liked about this movie because it helped tie everything together, like how Peter gets his powers and how the villain comes to be. The development of Peter's abilities as Spider-Man was displayed well in this movie. In this movie, they elaborated on his powers more than in the other films, making Peter stronger and faster, while also portraying him with more martial arts skills and more agility.
Now, usually when people hear about a reboot of a popular series of films, they think it'll be terrible compared to the original, but for this film I thought it was excellent just like the previous films. If you've seen the original Spider-Man trilogy, you know the awesome villains he's faced in the past, for example, The Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, and Venom. If you loved those famous Spider-Man villains, you'll love the other classic comic villain Dr. Curt Conners, also known as The Lizard. With the help of some amazing special effects, The Lizard came to life as the new villain in this amazing Spider-Man reboot.
Another thing I thought was good in this movie was the actors. We all liked the original Peter Parker, played by Tobey Maguire in all three films, but in this film, Peter is portrayed younger, while still being in high school, and played by The Social Network's Andrew Garfield. Peter's love interest in this film is Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone, instead of Mary Jane Watson, his love interest in the other films. I liked Garfield as Parker in this film because he brought comedy into the movie and made a pretty good web-slinger. If you liked the original Spidey movies, you'll love this action-packed Spider-Man reboot.
I gave this movie a 7 out of 10 because even though this movie was full of awesome action scenes and great special effects, it still doesn't compare to the original web-slinging trilogy.
